CPI National Secretary Dr K Narayana today said that his party had a sizable support base in the Munugodu Assembly constituency, and would take a call on what to do in a day.
Revealing that the ruling TRS and the Congress had both sought their support for the upcoming by-election, Narayana said that all three options - allying with the TRS, allying with the Congress and going at it alone - were on the table at the moment and were being discussed within the party circles, and that a decision would be taken based on the opinions of all the party leaders.
He said that the party would make a formal statement on the issue by Saturday afternoon.
He said that the CPI's goal was to make sure that the BJP was defeated in the by-election, and claimed that its support would decide which of the TRS and the Congress would win.
The CPM has
already announced that it will not compete in the by-election, and has said that it will do exactly the same - decide which of the Congress and the TRS to support, with the goal being to defeat the BJP.
