The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won the by-election for the Munugodu Assembly constituency in Nalgonda district.
TRS candidate Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy won the seat by a majority of 10,309 votes.
The TRS candidate faced a tough fight from BJP candidate Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, but eventually won by a healthy margin.
Prabhakar Reddy polled 97,006 votes and Raj Gopal Reddy polled 86,697 votes.
Congress candidate Palvai Sravanthi got 23,906 votes.
44 other candidates received 15,875 votes cumulatively.
Over 93% polling was reported in the by-election held on November 3 - 2,25,192 of a total of 2,41,805 voters cast their votes.
The election was necessitated by the resignation of the sitting Congress MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy from the party in August. He had defected to the BJP and sought re-election.
TRS activists celebrated the victory at Telangana Bhavan, the party's State headquarters. With the party candidate leading in all the rounds against the BJP and the Congress candidates during the counting of the votes, the party activists were in continuous celebration mode, dancing to drum-beats and bursting crackers. They kept chanting the slogans of "Jai KCR, Jai Telangana" and "Desh ka netha KCR".
The leaders said that the Munugodu victory is a stepping stone for the party's national entry as Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
