Why No Contempt Case Over Temple Issue: BJP To MIM

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday questioned the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen for not approaching the High Court to prove its allegations of contempt-of-court for the erection of tarpaulin on the Bhagyalakshmi Temple.

Addressing a press conference at the state party office at Nampally, BJP state president G Kishan Reddy said that if MIM was so certain that the state government had allowed tarpaulin on the temple, then why it did not file a contempt petition in the High Court. He said that the MIM too had realised that the state government did not violate the court orders over the temple issue. Therefore, fearing that their false stand would be exposed in the court, the MIM leaders are not approaching the court, he reiterated.

Stating that MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi himself is a barrister, Kishan Reddy said that the party should have dragged the government to the court if there had been any violations of its order. However, he alleged that the MIM had created a controversy over the temple issue to disturb the peace in the city. He said that the peace-loving people of Hyderabad have understood the MIM's hidden agenda and did not react to it.

The BJP leader said that efforts were still being made by some miscreants to disturb the peace and harmony in the city. Citing the instance of burning of cars in Ghansi Bazar area on Monday, he appealed to the police to identify and immediately arrest the culprits with the help of CCTV cameras footage.

BJP floor leader E Lakshminarayana demanded that the Cyberabad Police withdraw its circular imposing restrictions on police personnel from practising Deeksha of Swamy Ayyappa. He said that the BJP would launch a protest if the circular was not withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Kishan Reddy informed that the BJP has prepared a report on the losses due to the cyclone Nilam. He said that the government has completely sidelined the relief works for the cyclone victims following recent political developments. He demanded that the government pay an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs to the families of those killed, and review the relief works by calling an all-party meeting at the district level. He also asked the government to take an all-party delegation to New Delhi to seek relief from the Centre.
