Refuting reports in a section of the media regarding the shortage of water in Hyderabad, Health Minister Danam Nagender on Wednesday said that the government will successfully overcome the water crisis in the city.
Interacting with the media after taking part in a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Rosaiah and attended by GHMC officials, the Minister said that alternative measures have been taken up to tide over the crisis of water shortage.
Referring to a news report about the drying up of Gandipet lake, Danam said "Out of 315 MGD (Million Gallons Per Day) of water being supplied to Hyderabad city, only 4%, i.e., 15 GMD, was drawn from Gandipet lake, which has dried up. The 20 GMD of water from Manjeera and 180 MGD through Krishna Drinking Water Project have enough reserves. The 15 GMD of water, which was the shortfall due to the drying up of Gandipet lake, will be filled up with water from Krishna Drinking water project."
The minister admitted that the water supply time was cut down by 15 minutes as many surrounding areas were incorporated in the GHMC.
Regarding the defects in the pipeline system, the minister said that steps are being taken up to seal leakages in pipelines.
