Mir Alam Filters Water Safe: HMWSSB
HMWSSB MD M Jagadeeshwar on Sunday inspected the facilities at the Mir Alam Filter Beds, and stated that the water is well-treated and filtered, and potable.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director M Jagadeeshwar on Sunday inspected the filtration process and laboratory facilities at the Mir Alam Filter Beds, near Nehru Zoological Park, after citizens lodged complaints that discoloured water was being supplied from the filter.
After his inspection tour, Jagadeeshwar stated that he found that the water coming from the Himayath Sagar source well-treated and filtered, and potable.
Later, the HMWSSB GM held meetings with the concerned officials. He instructed them to be more responsive towards rectifying pollution cases reported if any, and maintain good water supply/quality in the areas served under Himayatsagar and Osmansagar reservoirs where the problem of smell and odour was reported. He also urged them to follow the remedial measures suggested by the expert committee constituted for resolving these problems.
The Managing Director stressed on the need to strengthen laboratory in the MRG filters and in other places, and instructed the concerned GM (QAT) to come out with proposals for the same.
Incidentally, before the arrival of the Managing Director, Ramnastpura Corporator Mohd Mobinalong with some residents visited MRG filters to complain about water pollution, whereupon ENC and Director (Projects) M Satyanarayana and HMWSSB Technical Director S Prabhakar Sharma explained the entire filtration process in the filter beds and how clear water is being distributed, to which the Corporator expressed satisfaction and left.
The pollution may be due to the mixing up of drainage water with drinking water and the same would be rectified immediately, the officials assured. They also said that until then, drinking water would be supplied through deploying tankers. (INN)
