In a major push towards modernizing railway infrastructure, the Warangal railway station is set for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
The initiative aims to upgrade 40 railway stations including Warangal across Telangana at an estimated cost of Rs 2,737 crore, transforming them into modern hubs with world-class passenger amenities. The initiative is part of a broader vision to position railway stations as economic growth centres, driving local and regional development.
The Warangal station's redevelopment is expected to provide better connectivity, upgraded facilities and improved passenger experience, benefiting both commuters and the regional population.
The ABSS, launched by the Ministry of Railways, focuses on the long-term development of railway stations, ensuring they evolve to meet growing passenger demands. The policy outlines a master plan for phased upgrades, integrating critical infrastructure improvements while enhancing commuter convenience.
The redevelopment mission received a significant boost in Telangana with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stones for station modernization projects in the State during August 2023 and February 2024.
Among the key projects, the Secunderabad railway station is undergoing a large-scale revamp to meet international standards, while the Charlapalli station is being developed as an alternate terminal to ease congestion in the twin cities.
