Indian Railways is undergoing a major transformation as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), with a large-scale upgradation of railway stations aimed at providing world-class facilities to passengers.
As part of that, forty railway stations across Telangana are being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 2,737 crore.
The initiative seeks to offer modern passenger amenities and transform these stations into regional growth hubs.
The mission gained significant momentum when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for station redevelopment projects in Telangana in August 2023 and February 2024. The list of projects includes the major upgradation of the Secunderabad railway station, which is being redeveloped on a large scale to meet global standards, and the redevelopment of the Bhadrachalam Road railway station at an expenditure of Rs 25.41 crore.
The ABSS was formulated by the Ministry of Railways to modernize railway stations through continuous development with a long-term vision. The scheme focuses on incorporating key infrastructure elements based on a comprehensive master plan that addresses the growing needs of and increasing footfalls at railway stations.
