Telangana Health Minister Etala Rajender today visited the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), and claimed that it was fully equipped with the necessary apparatus, staff, labs and medicines to treat Covid patients.
Rajender inspected the facilities at the institute, and also visited the pharmacy to check out the latest position of the availability of Covid-19 drugs. He also interacted with a few patients, and claimed that they had informed him that they were getting good treatment.
The comments gain context given that yesterday Union Minister of State Kishan Reddy had said
exactly the opposite after visiting the same hospital.
Rajender also said that getting treated for the coronavirus was not expensive and needed only around Rs 10,000. He appealed to the people to avoid private hospitals and instead get treatment in the government hospitals. Gandhi, Chest, King Koti and Osmania hospitals in the city were offering Covid treatment, and the government had improved facilities in all the districts too for people to get treatment for the disease, he said.
There were also 1,100 health centers across the state now offering corona tests, he claimed.
The government would help those in home isolation, and others with serious symptoms would be treated in the hospitals, he said. He also again reassured people that there was no need to fear the coronavirus as it was not deadly, and seriously affected only people with co-morbidities. 81% of people who got infected would not even show any symptoms, he said.
Rajender also said that many private hospitals were "looting people" by collecting even upto Rs 1 lakh per day, and warned them of serious action.
