Hyderabad's Gandhi Hospital, which had become a sort of epicentre for Covid-19 treatment in the past few months, will resume the provision of general health services from August 3, according to its superintendent, Dr Raja Rao.
Rao said that it had been decided that non-Covid healthcare services would be provided to the public soon as the pandemic was now under control.
"Since Covid-19 cases have been falling steadily in the state, the management of the hospital has decided to provide general health services from next month," he added.
The famous hospital has been offering only Covid-19-related services to patients after the Telangana government directed it to do so - it had
suspended all its Out-Patient services following the steep increase in the number of Covid-19 patients approaching the hospital for treatment in April.
Data from March reveals that since the pandemic gripped the state early last year, the hospital staff have treated 35,000 patients affected by the virus, successfully handled the deliveries of 900 Covid-positive women, and saved nearly 7,000 critical patients from succumbing to the disease.
Former Health Minister Etala Rajender had even felicitated the doctors, nurses, and paramedical and sanitation staff of the healthcare facility for
tireless service to the public throughout the pandemic.
