The farmers' protest program held at the Jagityal district headquarters demanding the establishment of paddy and corn procurement centres today led to violence.
The farmers took out a Chalo Collectorate rally for the fulfilment of their demands. However the police stalled the rally citing the enforcement of Section 144 of the CrPC in the area.
Some of the farmers under the aegis of the United Farmers' Forum however managed to reach the collectorate and raise slogans against the state government and demand that it fulfill their demands.
Some farmers also stopped the police from trying to arrest their union leaders by lying before the police vans.
Some others pelted stones smashing the glasses of the police vehicles.
This led to some tense moments in the area.
The police had earlier also taken the leaders of different political parties into preventive custody and kept them under house arrest. Congress leader of the area and MLC T Jeevan Reddy was one of those kept under house arrest.
Huge contingents of police forces have been deployed in the district headquarters to avoid any kind of violent incidents.
