Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav mocked the Congress leaders for "making a mountain out of a mole hill" on the issue of the handcuffing of the arrested chilli farmers while the latter were being taken to the district court in Khammam.
Speaking at the second annual conference of the Telangana Working Journalists Union on Saturday, Yadav, while showering accolades on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the TRS government for taking up numerous developmental and welfare schemes, especially for the farming community, ridiculed the criticism of the opposition parties, particulary the Congress leaders, with regard to the handcuffing of the chilli farmers.
"How can the Chief Minister be blamed if the accused farmers were handcuffed and taken to the court by the police?" he asked, and said that KCR could not keep a tab on how every criminal was being taken to court.
Yadav further claimed that it was under the present TRS regime that the farmers were getting benefited unlike in the past. But the Congress leaders were crying foul for no rhyme or reason over trivial issues, he said, and felt that such actions by the opposition should be exposed by the journalists.
"Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy had asserted that the police personnel responsible for the handcuffing of the chilli farmers were being dealt with as per the law, and the opposition should have rested the issue with that. Never in the past have farmers been given so many incentives and financial support. But still the opposition parties are trying to pick loopholes in everything the TRS government is doing for the benefit of the farmers," he said.
