BJP leader and former MP Vijayashanti today criticised the Telangana government for appearing to be in a state of confusion over the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
She said that it had been proved beyond doubt that imposing a
night curfew would not be enough to put an end to the growing number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana.
"Some of India's biggest states have imposed lockdowns to control the spread of the pandemic. But, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has not imposed a lockdown in the state claiming that its economic condition will worsen if such a step is taken. I would like to remind him that steps like opening shops using an 'odd and even number' system and issuing passes to the owners of commercial establishments had done much to control the pandemic last year. He must realise the urgency with which stronger steps need to be taken to control the pandemic," the leader charged.
She also alleged that both the CM and Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, who recently announced that there was
no need for a lockdown, were making "misleading statements" about the pandemic to hide the real state of affairs.
Though there has been a
slight dip in the daily case tally in Telangana, the state is still recording a high number of fresh cases every day. It recorded 5,892 new cases and 46 Covid-19 deaths during the last 24 hours and currently has 73,851 active cases.
