The YSR Congress Party president reiterated that the Congress and Telugu Desam Party had conspired against Jagan and were using the CBI against him.
YSR Congress Party honorary president Y S Vijayamma on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court decision rejecting bail to party chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, but reiterated the party's stand that the Congress and Telugu Desam Party had conspired against him and were using the CBI against him.
Though the Supreme Court's rejection of bail had disappointed the party's leaders and activists, the party would continue fighting on behalf of the people under Jagan's direction, and with renewed vigour and determination, she told a media conference here after the apex court's decision.
"As a people's party, the YSRCP will continue to stand by the people and fight to find solutions to various issues dogging them. I appeal to the party's leaders, cadre and the people to keep their composure and not get disheartened," she said.
Like YSR who worked for the people's welfare till his last breath, she said that the others in the YSR family would also always stand by the people and strive for them.
Saying that the party was very much confident of attaining absolute majority and forming the government after the next elections, she challenged both the Congress and the TDP to disqualify the 18 Congress and TDP MLAs who violated the party whip during the recent no-trust vote.
"We are ready to face the bypolls, the local body polls and even the assembly elections at any point of time, and we are confident of winning," she said.
Vijayamma accused the CBI of misleading the courts by giving different versions in its arguments. "It once said, after filing 4 charge-sheets, that 70 percent of the probe was over, but now it is seeking 4 more months to complete it. And how can Jagan influence witnesses while the accused ministers who have been allowed to be free can not?" she asked.
The CBI had also been giving different figures of the alleged fraud, talking of Rs. 800 crores, Rs. 40,000 crores and Rs. 1,00,000 crores at different times and misleading the courts, she said.
The CBI, which had probed the allegations against Jagan for nearly 10 months before his arrest, and continued its probe for nearly a year after, has so far proved nothing against him, she said, adding that it was normal for the Congress leadership to harass political opponents since Indira Gandhi's times.
"Indira Gandhi jailed even great leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan, Morarji Desai and Prof. Madhu Dandavate for 18 months without allowing them bail, for opposing her emergency," she said, and charged the Congress leadership with adopting the same old techniques even now.
"We know the Congress won the Karnataka polls by tearing the BJP to pieces," she said, reiterating that the YSRCP would form the next government despite the malevolence of the Congress. (INN)
