Leaders affiliated to the Telangana Congress Monitoring Group urged union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to convince the high command about the necessity of tabling a bill in Parliament for the creation of a separate Telangana.
The TCMG members, led by Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary G Niranjan, met Azad at a star hotel, where the minister is chairing the state health ministers' conference.
Earlier, media persons had
boycotted the union health ministers' press conference.
The delegation urged Azad to use his good offices with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and prime minister Manmohan Singh, to ensure that the bill gets tabled in the upcoming budget session.
The delegation reminded the health minister that since he was the party in-charge for Andhra Pradesh affairs at one time, he had an understanding of the situation, and of the aspirations of the Telangana people.
The Telangana leaders also requested him to stand by the 9 December 2009 announcement of union home minister P Chidambaram and begin the process of creating the separate state of Telangana.
