The deadline for using the old 500 rupee notes at petrol pumps and at airports has been cut short to December 2, instead of December 15, as announced earlier.
According to government notifications, the old note will continue to be accepted for other utility bill payments as well as at the railway ticket counters, and counters of government or TSRTC bus tickets.
The government has also dropped its earlier plans to allow the use of Rs. 500 notes for the payment of toll at National Highways from December 3.
The move to curtail the use of old notes at petrol pumps and highway toll plazas follow reports of the facility being misused to launder money.
