Minister for Energy Jagadish Reddy slammed the union government for its decision to withdraw the Rs 2,000 currency notes from circulation, and alleged that all the decisions being taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi favoured the rich.
Speaking to the media today, Reddy said that the PM was working for the rich and corporate classes, and that the union government's latest decision to withdraw the Rs 2,000 currency notes would not help the poor in the country.
"Nobody knows why the higher value currency notes were banned earlier and how much black money was unearthed. This is another blunder by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the poor people will face more trouble due to the ban of Rs 2,000 currency notes," Reddy claimed.
Why did the Centre introduce the Rs 2,000 notes in the first place and why was it now withdrawing them now, he sought to know.
The Reserve Bank of India has announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 currency notes from circulation, and has said that the existing notes in circulation could be either deposited in bank accounts or exchanged by September 30.
