After the House assembled on Monday, the opposition members demanded the Chair that it allow an adjournment motion for a discussion on power supply. But their suggestion was turned down.
Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar gave the members an assurance that later in the day, a discussion on the subject will be facilitated to highlight their views. With this assurance from the Chair, the scheduled Question Hour began on Metro Rail topic.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, M Mahidhar Reddy, informed that the Metro Rail project would be completed within 5 years.
Later, the TDP members raised the issue of suicides by handloom weavers in the state.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members trooped into the 'well of the House' and surrounded the Speaker’s podium, and raised protests demanding the government to find a solution to the problems faced by the weavers.
Replying to them, the Minister for Legislative Affairs, speaking for Handlooms Minister P Shankar Rao, said that the government had already released funds towards the loan waivers.
The government has invited genuine weavers, individual beneficiaries and societies, to approach it for loan waivers. As bogus societies and members have claimed loans earlier, the claimants will now be scrutinized, in order to provide relief to genuine members.
Not satisfied, the TDP Members continued their protest.
The Deputy Speaker asked the members to remain calm, but to no effect. Then he adjourned the House for the day and called it to meet again on Tuesday.
Early in the session, the TDP and CPM members sought an adjournment motion on power-cut, while the BJP and CPI members demanded a discussion on SC/ST Categorisation bill in Parliament.
