Heavy rain was reported in different parts of Telangana today resulting in widespread damage to the paddy stored in the various paddy procurement centres (PPCs) and the uprooting of trees in several places.
Besides the paddy itself, electricity poles and temporary sheds set up at the PPCs were also damaged due to flash rains coupled with heavy winds.
Standing crops were also damaged in some areas.
Meanwhile, heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds lashed the State capital Hyderabad early this morning.
The residents of the city and its suburbs woke up to thunderstorms and high intensity rains lasting 2-3 hours, that left low-lying residential areas and roads inundated, uprooted trees and disrupted vehicular traffic and electricity supply in many parts of the city.
Water-logging on key roads in several areas including Basheerbagh, Khairatabad, Lakdi Ka Pul, Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Malakpet, Alwal and Uppal disrupted traffic in those and surrounding areas.
Authorities said that a cloudburst led to the heavy rains.
Some of the affected areas in the Old City needed Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to go out on boats to rescue people.
Boats were pressed into service in Madina Nagar and Dhobi Ghat in the Yakutpura constituency. Some areas in the Bahadurpura constituency were also badly hit, with flood waters entering houses.
