The MP said that if the Telangana issue isn’t being solved by talks, a referendum should be passed, and it would indicate that 90% want the state to not split
Lagadapati said that what the state was witnessing was not a movement for the formation of Telangana, but a perception that Andhra Pradesh would be separated away. In the past 53 years it was Telangana that benefited more than Andhra and Seema.
He said if the problem was not being solved by talks, a referendum should be passed, and he asserted that in such a case, 90% people in 22 districts would surely vote for a united Andhra Pradesh.
Lagadapati told the media that even Sonia Gandhi, before the 2009 elections, had raised the slogan of “Jai Andhra Pradesh, and neither did YSR promise a separate Telangana.
The Vijayawada MP condemned the violent acts by people in the guise of students. He questioned professors as to why learned people like them were silent witnesses to the offensive acts and speeches made by these “students”. Holding up a few press clippings, he also said he was being misquoted by the media, and miscreants were using false reports to take advantage of sentiments of people in Telangana.
He said that leaders usually go by the vocal minority, and that a majority of people remain silent, and they should be taken care of as well.
