The Seemandhra bandh called by the Seemandhra Joint Action Committee (JAC) is having different effects in different parts of the state. Vijayawada has been slightly tense, and a human chain is being organized in Benz Circle.
Mayor Ratnabindu, the ex-mayor, and corporators were arrested. People in the region have reacted against the
violent statements made in the Vidyarthi Garjana in OU, especially regarding how Andhra students who would go home for Sankranti would not be allowed back into Hyderabad.
Across the state, roads are empty, and schools colleges, business establishments and government offices have been closed. Thousands of RTC buses have been stopped, and passengers as well as RTC employees are complaining against the financial losses and inconveniences they’re facing.
Vizag is witnessing a peaceful bandh. The HSBC office in the city was attacked the last time around, so police have beefed up security there and in other areas. East and West Godavari districts are also peaceful, though public transportation is practically dysfunctional, with a total of around 1450 buses having been stopped.
In Chittoor, the bandh has turned violent. The TDP and the PRP are taking part in the bandh, but the Congress has stayed away and is also asking the public to stay away from it. In Anantapur, SKU students are conducting a dharna. The University is reported to have postponed its exams.
Meanwhile, at Shamshabad airport, where Lagadapati Rajagopal arrived today, TRS activists proceeded to fall at his feet and shout slogans of Jai Telangana.
