Undeterred by the curfew and shoot-at-sight orders, Samaikyandhra activists continued their violence for the second consecutive day on Sunday, in Vizianagaram town and other parts of the district.
Activists clashed with the police at several places in Vizianagaram, forcing the latter to use force. At Kothapeta, police fired rubber bullets to disperse a violent mob. Similarly, clashes were seen in the Pallivedhi area.
Agitators also attacked Satya Engineering College, run by family members of PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana, at Gajularega.
The protestors have been targeting the properties of Botsa and his family members in Vizianagaram. Some resorted to arson and looting at a few places, while several public and private properties have been set ablaze.
All entry points to Vizianagaram have been sealed, following reports that students and protestors from Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam were reaching the town.
Police said that some anti-social elements were resorting to arson and looting while taking advantage of the Samaikyandhra agitation. Several people have been taken into custody for the incidents of violence, while those spreading rumours or inciting violence through mobile phone and social media networks have been identified.
A senior police official said that the curfew in Vizianagaram would continue till complete normalcy is restored in the region. (INN)
