Union Gives Vijayawada International Airport Status
A Union cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval for the declaration of the Vijayawada airport as International Airport.
A Union cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval for the declaration of the Vijayawada airport as International Airport, as per the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
The step will improve the connectivity to the city. It will result in wider services at competitive prices to air travelers, and give a boost to domestic/international tourism and the socio-economic development of Andhra Pradesh by bringing in international passengers and cargo traffic.
Declaration of an airport as International Airport is done after assessing the traffic potential and demand from airlines for operation of international flights to and from the city. The declaration of Vijayawada's airport as International Airport has been done keeping in view the passenger traffic growth, and the demands from airlines and the Andhra Pradesh government.
The Airports Authority of India will now undertake upgradation of the infrastructure and facilities.
