The free bus travel facility for women launched by the Congress government is causing many difficulties to the TSRTC. For example, the corporation is facing criticism that it had reduced the number of buses after the launch of the scheme. The TSRTC however insists that it has increased the number of buses.
Pointing to another issue, TSRTC MD Sajjanar today said the number of women passengers in express buses had increased. He added that it had come to the notice of the TSRTC that women travelling short distances were mostly travelling in express buses. This was causing a lot of inconvenience to long-distance commuters, he said.
"Those who travel short distances should board the Palle Velugu ordinary buses," Sajjanar said in a video he uploaded asking the women to cooperate with the staff. "Some women are pressurising the RTC staff to stop the express buses in the middle of the roads and not at the permitted stages, which is increasing the travel time. I appeal to the women passengers to give priority to long distance passengers and cooperate with the staff as express buses will be stopped at the permitted stages only from now on," he said.
