The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is launching AC sleeper buses for the first time, with high-tech features for the comfort of passengers, from Monday.
In the first phase, 16 AC sleeper buses are being inducted into the fleet.
These buses, which have been designed to compete with private services, will be available to passengers from Monday.
The corporation will run the 16 new buses on the routes of Bengaluru and Hubli in Karnataka; Visakhapatnam and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh; and Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
The corporation had recently launched 630 new super luxury buses, eight non-AC sleeper-cum-seater buses, and four non-AC sleeper buses to provide better services to its passengers. They have been reportedly getting a good response from people, and the TSRTC management has now decided to climb up the value chain further with these new AC sleeper buses with state-of-the-art facilities to reach more people going to distant places.
The 12-metre buses have a capacity of 30 berths each - 15 lower and 15 upper. They come with free wi-fi. Berths will have water bottles, mobile charging points and reading lamps. There will be LED display boards in the front and rear of the buses to show the details of the destinations. A state-of-the-art fire detection and alarm system has been installed in the buses. The buses also have public address systems to convey information to the passengers.
Advanced technology has also been added to the AC sleeper buses for the safety of the passengers, in the form of a tracking system, security cameras and panic buttons. The TSRTC control room will be alerted if any passenger presses a panic button.
The new buses will be inaugurated on Monday at 9:30 am on the Vijayawada route in L B Nagar, Hyderabad. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar will flag off the new buses. TSRTC Chairman & MLA Bajireddy Govardhan, TSRTC MD V C Sajjanar and other high officials will be participating in the program.
