Hyderabad | 7th January 2026
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has geared up to handle the heavy passenger rush during the Sankranthi festival by operating 6,431 special buses to ensure smooth travel for commuters heading to their hometowns.
According to TGSRTC officials, peak travel demand is expected on January 9, 10, 12 and 13, and then for return journeys on January 18 and 19. Special buses will be deployed dynamically on these days based on passenger demand.
The special services will operate from major hubs in Hyderabad, including MGBS, JBS, Uppal Cross Roads, Aramghar, L B Nagar, KPHB, Bowenpally and Gachibowli. To enhance passenger comfort, the corporation will arrange pandals, shamianas, seating facilities, public address systems, drinking water and mobile toilets at these locations.
TGSRTC said that even if passenger turnout was low in the return trips window, empty buses would be rerouted promptly to busy corridors to avoid inconvenience and ensure optimal utilisation of services.
As per GO No 16 issued in 2003, the corporation is permitted to set fares for special buses at up to 1.5 times the regular fares during major festivals to offset fuel and maintenance costs. Accordingly, higher fares will apply to special buses operating both within Telangana and to other States on peak travel dates. The regular services will continue to operate at normal fares.
Under the State government's Mahalakshmi scheme, free travel for women will remain available on Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary and Metro Express services during the festival period.
Passengers are advised to book tickets in advance through www.tgsrtcbus.in. For further details, they may contact the TGSRTC call centres at 040-69440000 or 040-23450033.
