The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is purchasing several new buses for the convenience of passengers.
The corporation has decided to procure 1,050 state-of-the-art diesel buses at a cost of Rs 400 crore in this financial year.
These include 400 express, 512 Palle Velugu, 92 Lahari sleeper-seater and 56 AC Rajdhani buses.
Apart from this, the TSRTC is also bringing in 540 eco-friendly electric vehicles to Hyderabad and 500 buses to other parts of Telangana.
The company plans to make all these buses available to passengers by March 2024 in a phased manner.
The new buses will be used to cater to the increased congestion due to the Mahalakshmi free bus travel facility scheme for women.
Meanwhile, as many as 80 new buses equipped with state-of-the-art facilities are being pressed into use from Saturday. Of these, 30 are express, 30 are Rajdhani AC and 20 are Lahari sleeper-seater (non-AC) buses.
The inauguration of these new buses will be held at 10 am on Saturday (Dec 30) at the Ambedkar statue on NTR Marg in Hyderabad. Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will be the chief guest and flag off the new buses. Transport, Road and Buildings Department Secretary Srinivasa Raju, Transport Commissioner Jyothi Buddha Prakash, TSRTC MD V C Sajjanar and other senior officials will be present on the occasion.
