The corporation's Managing Director V C Sajjanar launched the service at Bus Bhavan, in a bus of the Kukatpally bus depot.
He then experienced the service for himself.
The Executive Director (Operations) of the corporation P V Muni Shekhar, Kukatpally depot manager Ishaq bin Mohammad and mechanical superintendent Jayaram explained to the MD the manner of functioning of the radio and its sound.
The radio service will be available in nine ordinary city buses and metro buses as part of a pilot project.
Speaking on the occasion, Sajjanar expressed hope that the TSRTC radio service would enhance the experience of the passengers.
He said that the corporation had included the radio service in the Uppal-Secunderabad, Gachibowli-Mehdipatnam, Secunderabad-Patancheru, Kukatpally-Shankarpally, Kondapur-Secunderabad, Koti-Patancheru and Ibrahimpatnam-JBS route buses, and that the services had come into air from Saturday.
He said that the radio service would not only explain to the passengers the various TSRTC services, but also create awareness about women & child safety and cyber/financial frauds, and entertain the passengers with songs.
He also said that the corporation would also air stories highlighting the importance of moral values and with good messages.
Passengers would be encouraged to provide feedback through QR codes set up in all the buses, and the radio services would be expanded to other buses based on the feedback, he added.
