TRS To Face Defeat In Palair By-Election: Congress

Addressing election meetings in Palair, TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy described the contest as a battle between morality and political arrogance.
Hyderabad | 13th May 2016
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed confidence that the voters of the Palair Assembly constituency in the Khammam district would crush the arrogance of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi in the by-election being held on May 16.

Addressing various election meetings in Palair on Friday, Reddy described the contest as a battle between morality and political arrogance.

"The TRS and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao want to take advantage of the untimely demise of the sitting MLA Ramreddy Venkatreddy. Instead of giving Ramreddy's family an opportunity to fulfill his unaccomplished dreams, KCR fielded a candidate to increase his tally in Assembly. This is nothing but arrogance and greed for power," he said.

"The TRS should have set a good precedent by ensuring the unanimous election of Sucharitha Reddy in the Palair by-election. However, he repeated what he did in Narayankhed with the family of late Kista Reddy. Both Kista Reddy and Ramreddy Venkatreddy were known in their constituencies for their selfless service for the people, especially the poor. Even Tummala Nageshwara Rao had endorsed the great services of Ramreddy while giving a condolence message on his demise. But the greed to win another MLA seat drove the TRS leaders to such an extent that they broke all traditions and morals, and want to erase the contribution of a great leader by winning the Palair seat at any cost," he added.

Reddy thanked the TDP and the YSR Congress for supporting the candidature of the Congress candidate, Ramreddy's widow Sucharitha Reddy.

The TPCC chief also accused the TRS government of misusing the official machinery for the Palair by-election. He alleged that some police officials were acting like TRS agents, and asked the Election Commission of India to take a serious note of a series of violations of the Model Code of Conduct.

He warned the TRS against intimidating the Congress workers in the Khammam district. He said that such tactics would only strengthen the Congress' resolve to defeat the "immoral and unethical" TRS.

"We are confident of winning the Palair seat with a comfortable majority. All tactics being adopted by the TRS will prove futile. The TRS leaders might have gained experience in playing mind games, but the Congress knows the art of winning the people's hearts. The downfall of the TRS government will begin from Palair," he said.
