Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA T Harish Rao on Tuesday threatened to paralyse the functioning of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation if the state government fails to accept the demands of striking employees.
Addressing the Maha Dharna organised by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees' Union at the GHMC headquarters, Harish Rao accused the state government of ignoring the repeated pleas of municipal employees for a hike in salaries, allotment of house sites and other demands.
He said that the relay hunger strike by the GHMEU had entered its 62nd day on Tuesday, and that when it reaches the 100-day mark, the employees of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply And Sewerage Board too would join the strike.
Harish Rao condemned the failure of talks between the employees and Municipal Administration minister M Maheedhar Reddy, and said that the government was deliberately ignoring the demands of municipal employees.
"While GHMC employees are being denied sites for houses, the government is giving away Telangana lands to Congress leader Lagadapati Rajagopal," he alleged.
Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram cautioned Seemandhra leaders against acting against the interest of Telangana employees. He also announced total support to the ongoing strike by the employees.
GHMEU president U Gopal announced that the strike would be intensified further. (INN)
