The war of words between the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the state became increasingly bitter on Monday after the TRS members sought to defend their party chief from the verbal attack by TDP leaders earlier in the day.
Karne Prabhakar and Jagadishwara Reddy stated that the TDP, which had failed to initiate any action against its own MLAs who had resorted to cross-voting in the Legislative Council elections, had no moral right to criticize TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Talking to media persons at the Telangana Bhavan, the members stated that the TDP leaders were resorting to leveling baseless charges against the TRS to water down the Telangana agitation.
Condemning TDP MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao's statement, wherein he demanded a CBI probe into KCR's assets, they challenged TDP President Chandrababu Naidu to disclose his assets before and after assuming power in the state. They said that KCR would declare his assets if Chandrababu Naidu expresses willingness for a probe into his assets, and agrees to hold an open discussion on the issue.
They asked Uma Maheswara Rao to think before making baseless allegations against KCR.
They warned the TDP leader of serious consequences if he or his colleagues continue with their tirade against KCR.
"The TDP, which was not in a position to secure deposits in Seemandhra and Telangana regions after adopting a dubious stand on bifurcation of statehood issue, was resorting to leveling baseless charges to divert the attention of the people, and to cover up its goof-ups," the TRS members stated.
