TPCC chief and MP A Revanth Reddy today condemned the arrest of party workers in the Munugodu constituency, and warned that the party would teach the state government a "befitting lesson" if it continued to condone such "illegal arrests".
Speaking to the media, the MP alleged that the state was "reeling under the dictatorial rule" of the TRS government, and added that the regime was "brutally murdering democracy".
He said that in preventing fellow Congressman and MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy from attending an official program for the distribution of newly sanctioned white ration cards was tantamount to "depriving" him of his rights as a public representatives.
"Minister Jagadish Reddy distributed the ration cards in the presence of other TRS leaders and the police at a program to which he was not even invited. By doing so, the minister took away of the rights of an MLA," he thundered.
The leader also alleged that thousands of police personnel had not only put up check posts to prevent dissenters from registering their protests against the TRS government but had also bound Congress leaders to keep them from organising demonstrations.
This rant comes after Rajagopal Reddy was today apprehended by the police at the Bongulur road toll plaza of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and after several party workers from the Chityala, Narketpalli, Nakrekal and Ramannapeta areas from the Munugodu constituency were also detained.
