TPCC chief and MP A Revanth Reddy today alleged that the Telangana government was responsible for the "poor state" of Hyderabad's drainage infrastructure.
Speaking after visiting the families of two sanitation workers, Shiva and Antaiah, who had died while discharging their duties in Hayathnagar division's Sahebnagar area, the leader demanded the TRS government pay compensation to the two bereaved families at the earliest.
He warned the government had he would lodge a complaint on the incident with all the relevant national-level regulatory and legal agencies if this was not done by Monday, August 9.
"It is unfortunate that neither the Chief Secretary of the state, Somesh Kumar, nor the GHMC Commissioner have so far held any review meetings to address the long-standing drainage issues plaguing the city," Reddy thundered.
The MP then spoke to the L B Nagar Zonal Commissioner, Upender Reddy, and expressed his anger over the workers' deaths. He also asked Reddy why the workers had been made to enter a manhole in violation of all rules, and directed him to book criminal cases against the officials and contractors concerned.
During his meeting with the two families, he handed over compensation of Rs 1 lakh to each.
