TRS Dominates Other Parties In Panchayat Polls
1,100 candidates supported by the TRS won Sarpanch posts, followed by the Congress with 249, the TDP with 6, the BJP with 18, the CPI with 4 and the CPM with 8.

The ruling TRS witnessed significant support from the people in the first phase of the Telangana panchayat elections held on Monday.
The polling was completed by afternoon and the officials began counting of the votes from 2 pm. As many as 1,100 candidates supported by the TRS won Sarpanch posts. That was followed by the Congress with 249, the TDP with 6, the BJP with 18, the CPI with 4, the CPM with 8 and others with 253 when the last reports reached.
The final results will be announced on Monday after 10 pm.
The elections were held for 3,701 panchayats and 28,976 wards after members for 769 panchayats and 3,982 wards were elected unopposed. As many as 12,202 persons for Sarpanch posts and 70,954 for ward members are in the fray. The State Election Commission is monitoring the elections and will announce the results upon completion of the counting.
The second and third phase panchayat elections will be held on January 25 and 30.
