The Telangana Rashtra Samithi demanded a thorough probe into the police action against the students of Kakatiya University in Warangal.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, TRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao alleged that the police had used 3rd degree methods on students who raised 'Jai Telangana' slogans in the police station.
Asking the state government to order a comprehensive probe into the episode, he asked Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and other Telangana ministers to explain the incident.
The TRS leader demanded the suspension of Warangal Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkata Narsaiah for using 3rd degree methods on students in the police station. During police interrogation, he said, a student called Yakub Reddy was severely beaten up to the extent that he is not in a position to walk now.
According to sources, the DSP had threatened to finish agitating Telangana students in "encounters".
The police had arrested 16 students of Kakatiya University for vandalizing the house of Information & Technology Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah to demand his resignation in support of a Telangana state. (INN)
