In protest against what is being seen as unwarranted and unfair violence against students, the OU JAC has called for a bandh today.
Yesterday's clashes between police forces and ‘students' saw around 30 students being taken to hospital following injuries. When about 600 students tried to take
Venugopal Reddy's body in a funeral procession to Gun Park, they were blocked by a heavy police cordon. This led to violence near the Ladies' Hostel, the spot at which they were being stopped.
The Rapid Action Force was also brought in to deal with the situation, and tear gas shells, rubber bullets and water cannons were used to control the increasingly violent students. Students had started pelting police with stones, and torched one police van and 2 police trucks as well.
Venugopal's body was being carried to his home in Nalgonda district by the police, and agitators started pelting stones on the convoy carrying it. Warangal also saw unrest - students tried to attach residences of ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Konda Surekha.
