Looks like it's punishment time! Following the
repetitive stallings that have been inflicted upon the Assembly's session, courtesy of the incessant protesting and slogan-shouting by opposition legislators, all legislators of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were suspended for two days from the Andhra Pradesh state legislative Assembly on Monday.
The legislators, including TRS floor leader Etela Rajender, and BJP floor leader E Lakshminarayana, were suspended after Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy moved a resolution.
As soon as the House met on Monday, the TRS and BJP MLAs moved an adjournment motion seeking a Telangana resolution in the House. However, speaker Nadendla Manohar rejected all the adjournment motions moved by the opposition parties.
Following this not-so-surprising rejection, the TRS and BJP members rushed to the speaker's podium and started raising "Jai Telangana" slogans.
The Speaker then adjourned the House for half-an-hour, and called for a meeting with all the floor leaders. However, the floor leaders' meeting failed to end the deadlock.
The TRS and BJP legislators resumed their protest when the House re-assembled. Amid this furore, the speaker announced the suspension of the TRS and the BJP MLAs for two days. (INN)
