The transport services remained almost crippled on the third day of the strike by the employees of the Road Transport Corporation in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (APSRTC has not been bifurcated yet).
Minor incidents of violence were reported from a few places. In Khammam, the striking employees damaged the windscreens of three buses when contract drivers tried to ply them on the roads. One contract driver got injured in the incident.
At other bus depots, the employees cooked food before the bus depots to register their protest.
Nearly 1.20 lakh RTC employees have been on an indefinite strike from May 7 demanding payment of 43% fitment allowance.
The management has been trying to operate some services with the help of contract drivers and conductors. In the Greater Hyderabad limits, 204 buses were operated, including 104 services in Secunderabad and 100 in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the RTC management has announced the regularisation of the services of some contract employees which include 70 persons in Ananthapur and 50 in Kurnool.
The striking employees have decided to intensify their stir. They will organise Swachh Bharat campaigns before all the bus depots on May 10. (INN)
