Telangana ministers Jupally Krishna Rao, Konda Surekha and Seethakka today directed officials to ensure that the Bathukamma celebrations were conducted on a grand scale across Hyderabad, with special focus on the Guinness world record attempt scheduled at Saroornagar Stadium on September 29.
As part of the festivities, a "Bathukamma Carnival" will be held at Tank Bund on September 27, followed by bike and cycle rallies on September 28, the Guinness record attempt with 10,000 women at Saroornagar Stadium on September 29 for which a 63-foot-tall Bathukamma will be set up at the Saroornagar stadium, and Saddula Bathukamma at Tank Bund on September 30.
The ministers reviewed the arrangements for the above with senior officials at the Secretariat. During the review, the ministers instructed that sanitation, road repairs, accident-prevention measures, and large-scale decorations with electric lighting be carried out at the Tank Bund, P V Marg, the Secretariat, the Saroornagar stadium, and other major areas, and called for inter-departmental coordination between the tourism and culture departments, the GHMC, the HMDA, the police and Transco.
They also directed SERP officials to arrange transport for self-help group (SHG) women and ensure the participation of thousands of women, including folk and tribal artists, in the Bathukamma procession and immersion.
The ministers appealed to women SHG members, government employees, IT professionals and Hyderabad residents to participate in large numbers and make the festival a grand success.
State Women's Corporation Chairperson Bandlu Shobha Rani, SERP CEO Divya Devarajan, TSTDC MD Valluri Kranthi, and Language and Culture Department Director Enugu Narasimha Reddy were present at the meeting.
