Thunderstorm Lashes City; Trees, Power Poles Uprooted

The Mayor has been personally monitoring the emergency operation from the command control room, and the GHMC Commissioner is on the streets.

On account of sudden and heavy rains accompanied by gales this afternoon in Hyderabad, a total of 77 trees and six electric poles have been identified as uprooted so far, and rain water as having stagnated at 31 areas in the twin cities.

The GHMC control room has kept receiving complaints since the afternoon, and the emergency teams of the corporation plunged into action. The Mayor, accompanied by senior officers, was personally monitoring the emergency operation from the command control room on the 7th floor of the GHMC head office.

Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy visited Red Hills, Vijay Nagar Colony and other areas where trees have fallen down due to the heavy rains, and personally monitored the relief work as the emergency teams removed the uprooted trees which were obstructing vehicular traffic.

Reddy also inspected some of the water-logged and stagnation points.
