Some unidentified burglars tried to break open the chambers of Home Secretary Gautam Kumar, in the high security zone of the state Secretariat.
The attempt was noticed on Saturday afternoon, when Gautam Kumar noticed that some screws of the locks of his doors 502 and 503, in the "A" Block, were missing.
He immediately alerted the security staff, and later lodged a formal complaint at the Saifabad Police Station.
Gautam Kumar told reporters that no files were missing from his office, and that an enquiry has been ordered into the incident.
Additional DCP Central Zone Harsh Vardhan said that the burglars did not try to break the door. However, they might have tried to open the lock, as some screws were found missing, he said.
While admitting that the number of security personnel deployed for Secretariat security was insufficient, he said that the burglary attempt must not be viewed as a security lapse.
Besides the questioning of the staff, efforts were being made to identify the burglars through CCTV footage, he said. He said that no one has been taken into custody in this case. (INN)
