Tension prevailed once again in Khammam Market Yard when the Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader K Jana Reddy pulled up its officials, leading to heated arguments, and jostling between the activists of TRS and Congress for some time.
On Monday, Reddy visited the market yard along with TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and spoke to the Market Committee Chairman on the chilli farmers' issue. That quickly led to altercations and a stand-off.
Earlier, speaking to the media, Reddy said that the government had failed to provide a minimum support price of Rs 3,000 per quintal for cotton produce. The government had also assured the farmers that it would set up an Agriculture Stabilization Fund but failed to do so, he alleged, saying that the TRS government had made it a habit of deceiving the farmers.
Stating that his party was not agitating against the government, Jana Reddy said that they were merely urging the government to provide a minimum support price.
