BRS president and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao today demanded that the State government announce a compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre to farmers who ended up with withered crops.
He was speaking to the media at Suryapet on Sunday after inspecting the withered crops in Yadadri Bhongir, Jangaon and Suryapet districts.
The BRS president lambasted the Congress government claiming it had failed to supply drinking water, irrigation facility for crops and uninterrupted power supply to the people.
He criticised the "inefficient" Congress government as the cause of the drought in Telangana, and said that that this was not a natural drought but one brought about by the incompetent Congress government.
"The Congress government is the cause of the drying up of crops. It is also the cause of the lack of supply of high voltage power. The uninterrupted power supply given by the BRS government for eight years has now disappeared in Telangana. I never thought thought such a situation would prevail within just 100 days of the change of the government in Telangana," KCR lamented.
"Due to the inefficient Congress government, about 200 farmers have committed suicides during the last three months, and over 15 lakh acres of crops are drying up across the State," he added.
The former chief minister also demanded a Rs 500 bonus for all agriculture crops on the MSP, and said that the BRS leaders would submit a memorandum to all the district Collectors on April 2 to this effect, and would undertake "deekshas" at all the district headquarters on April 6.
KCR also asked the Chief Minister about the status of the Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver, pointing out that when Revanth Reddy was in the opposition, he had promised that all agriculture loans of upto Rs 2 lakh would be waived off on December 9.
"If the Congress government fails to take steps for the welfare of the farmers and meet our other demands, the BRS leaders will hunt the Congress leaders down and mount intense pressure on them in the days to come," KCR said.
