Hyderabad | 22nd January 2010
The Telangana Vaidya Garjana happened in the Osmania University campus today, and had speakers talk of how the Telangana agitation is a plea by people starved of basic necessities. Trenchant medicos made belligerent speeches speaking of how Samaikyandhra was detrimental to the medical profession, and how they were adopting peaceful means now, but if the Union Government did not give a firm timeline for Telangana by January 28, they would resort to different means.
They also spoke of how they would not show enthusiasm for treating non-Telangana patients in a united state, and warned of "arogya yatras" to be undertaken across the Telangana region from January 29 if there was no concrete statement made by January 28 by the Union Government.
Meanwhile, the core committee for Telangana of the Union Government met today at New Delhi for about 90 minutes, due to the renewed tensions in the region. It discussed the possibility of appointing a committee of 3 retired judges to study the separate statehood issue. There was no decision, with a proposal to appoint Justice Sri Krishna being shot down due to his reports on the Mumbai riots being perceived as one-sided.
Back home, PRP leader Kotagiri launched a scathing attack on K Rama Rao, son of TRS honcho KCR, for saying that he will make Chiranjeevi "dance". And ex-BJP President Rajnath Singh, who came to visit another ex-BJP President Venkaiah Naidu being treated for illness in a private hospital in the city, said that the Centre should announce a clear time-frame for Telangana, and that Telangana was unstoppable now.
