Osmania Univeristy was gripped with tension over MP Lagadapati Rajagopal's remarks over OU and its students on October 1.
Tension set in when some students gathered at the police station and announced a sit-in. Students resorted to stone-pelting, while the police tried to chase them away. The police later fired tear-gas shells at the agitators.
The OU Joint Action Committee (JAC) organised a "funeral procession" of Lagadapati from Arts college to Andhra Mahila Sabha. Progressive Democratic Students Union and Daruvu activists burnt the MP's effigies at Arts College.
The students also shouted slogans against the MP during the funeral procession. The clash between the police and students lasted for 5 hours near the campus and the police station.
Meawhile, there was a poor response to the bandh in the city, and all the MMTS trains that remained cancelled on Monday were put on track today.
