Telangana Upgrades ITIs To Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs)
Advanced equipment and technology will be installed in the ATCs to provide training will be provided to the youth in ATCs to meet the requirements of industry.
The State government has decided to upgrade the ITIs to Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) to further enhance the skills of the youth and meet the growing industrial need for skilled manpower, and promote Telangana as the destination for skilled youth force for employment generation.
Kicking off the initiative, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for an ATC at the Mallepally ITI today.
The State government has entered into a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) to upgrade 65 ITIs to ATCs in Telangana. As part of this endeavour, training will be provided to the youth in ATCs to meet the requirements of industry. For this, advanced equipment and technology will be installed in the ATCs.
TTL has already employed 130 experts to impart training in the ATCs. A total of 5,860 people are being trained in six types of long-term courses every year, and training in short-term courses will be offered to 31,200 people.
1.5 lakh people were provided training in the ITIs during the last ten years, and the present State government has targeted training four lakh people in the ATCs in the next ten years.
In addition to offering training in various courses, the ATCs will also act as skill development centres. And they will also play the role of Technology Centres (Technology Hubs) for aspiring entrepreneurs in small, micro, medium and large scale industries.
TTL will also offer job opportunities to those trained in various courses in the ATCs, which will also extend their services to polytechnics and engineering students in the future.
According to officials, the total cost of the project to convert ITIs into ATCs will be Rs 2,324.21 crore, and the State government will contribute Rs 307.96 crore (13.26%), with TTL contributing the remaining Rs 2,016.25 crore (86.74%).
