Telangana has topped in the country in the percentage of recovery (67.98%) of lost/stolen mobile devices using the CEIR portal.
DGP Anjani Kumar congratulated Nodal Officer Mahesh Bhagwat (Additional DGP, CID) and his team on the occasion for consistent monitoring and helping the unit-level teams in achieving this feat.
The CEIR portal has been developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to curb the menace of mobile theft and counterfeit mobile devices. The portal started on a pilot basis in Telangana on April 19, 2023, was officially launched nationwide on May 17.
In Telangana, Mahesh Bhagwat was designated as the Nodal Officer for the portal. The portal is operated in all the 780 police stations of Telangana. The portal resulted in 5,038 lost/stolen mobile devices being recovered in 110 days, of which the last 1,000 were recovered in 16 days and handed over to the complainants.
The 5,038 devices mean a recovery rate of 67.98%, putting Telangana at the top of the country. Karnataka at 54.20% and Andhra Pradesh at 50.90% are 2nd and 3rd.
Within Telangana, considerable contribution was made by the Cyberabad commissionerate with 763 mobile devices recovered. The Hyderabad commissionerate follows with 402 mobile devices, and the Rachakonda commissionerate with 398 mobile devices. The Warangal and Nizamabad commissionerates rank next.
The Telangana police in coordination with the DoT has integrated the CEIR portal with the Telangana Police Citizen Portal. Citizens are being encouraged to utilise this service instead of visiting Mee Seva centres or police stations for reporting lost/missing mobile devices.
