Following the mounting backlash by the Opposition and the public against its alleged apathy towards the government employees in the state, the Telangana government today took several critical steps to expedite the process of awarding the pending promotions to the eligible employees across all the government departments.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar held a meeting at the BBKR Bhavan to address the matter, and issued orders to the state's Special Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, other Heads of Departments and the District Collectors to immediately initiate the process of awarding the pending promotions, and to complete the exercise by January 31.
"All departments must work with their respective Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) to process the promotions at the earliest. Department heads must also submit category-wise status reports to the government in this regard. Proposals concerning the promotions of high-ranking officials, including third-level gazetted officers, should be submitted by the Secretaries concerned to the General Administration Department (Services) no later than January 11 so that steps to process the same can be taken at the earliest. The promotions of the employees of the Secretariat should also be processed by the General Administration Department and the concerned DPCs by January 24 so that the relevant promotion orders can be issued before January 31," Kumar said.
He also asked the officials to simultaneously take steps to recruit new employees for the posts that would become vacant as a consequence of the promotions.
The Chief Secretary also informed the officials that they would be required to submit a weekly progress report every Tuesday by 5 pm, which would be followed by a meeting every Wednesday for the rest of the month (January 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th) to review the progress on the promotions, compassionate appointments and direct recruitment vacancies across the government departments in the state.
