Telangana To Be Referred To SRC?

AICC spokesman Rashid Alvi hinted that the government would establish a special commission to deal with the demand for smaller states.
Hyderabad | 10th November 2011
All India Congress Committee official spokesman Rashid Alvi on Wednesday hinted that the government would establish a special commission to deal with the demand for smaller states.

Talking to media persons, Rashid Alvi opined that a demand for a smaller state can be resolved only through the formation of a Second Reorganisation Commission.

Rashid Alvi's statement assumes importance in the wake of Congress Core Committee member Digvijay Singh stating that the Congress could go in for an SRC ahead of the proposed division of Uttar Pradesh.

"Our policy regarding the bifurcation of the state is very open. We demand the formation of a State Reorganization Commission before the division of the state," he said.

It may be mentioned here that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati wants her state to be trifurcated into Bundelkhand, Poorvanchal, and Harit Pradesh.

Admitting that the Telangana issue is sensitive, Rashid Alvi said that Congress In-Charge Of AP State Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad was looking into the issue and would take a decision on states, including Telangana, in the Second Reorganisation Commission.

He said that the Congress is not against the formation of smaller states.

"However, the government needs a policy to deal with such demands for smaller states," he stated.

Meanwhile, all Telangana leaders have condemned the proposal of an SRC, and alleged that the Congress is trying to cheat the people of the region. (INN)
