Citing pressure from students' parents demanding the re-opening of schools, the Telangana Teachers' Joint Action Committee on Sunday decided to call off its agitation.
Talking to media persons, the Teachers' JAC members said that they have decided to call off their 34 days agitation in the interests of students and to protect their academic year.
The JAC leaders said that the teachers would attend classes and finish the syllabus on time to ensure that the academic year is not lost. However, the teachers will not sign attendance registers or accept their salaries, until the government invites them for talks, they said.
Meanwhile, Minister for Secondary Education K Parthasarathy hailed the decision to end the teachers' agitation. He also said that the government would solve the profession-related problems of teachers.
Earlier, the minister warned government teachers of severe action if they did not attend to their duties. He also warned the managements of private schools that the government would cancel their recognition if they do not re-open immediately. (INN)
