At the end of the crucial all-party meeting held in Delhi, Chidambaram spoke to the media and said that it is clear that views of political parties are divided on the Telangana issue, and that he will take these views to the PM and other senior colleagues. He said that the Centre would try evolving a mechanism for future talks.
He appealed to all student groups, joint action groups and other agitators to maintain peace. He said that the year-ending term of schools will start in January, and that several examinations will be held - parents should be allowed to send their children to schools without fear. He also said that businesses should continue to run and daily life should be resumed.
Chiranjeevi told the media that the meeting was not satisfactory, and said it was merely held to take all opinions into consideration. The PRP chief asserted that his party's stand was clear - that it stood for a united Andhra Pradesh. Several leaders have expressed their utter dissatisfaction at the meeting. Telangana ministers said they have presented fact sheets about the injustice the region is facing.
There even was a voice stating that Andhra and Uttarandhra are not being developed because of the state staying united - several projects were unfairly going to Hyderabad, a politician said.
TRS chief KCR said that he would talk only after the official reaction of the government of India, while AP's CM Rosaiah said he did not speak during the meeting.
Even as a copy of
Chidambaram's opening statement was released, there was violence outside North Block, with protestors reacting to the vagueness of the Home Minister's statement in what was seen as a path-breaking meeting.
